Search Engine Optimisation  S.E.O

S.E.O | Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is a must for your business website. Having an attractive website is not enough to get you noticed amongst the billions of websites world wide. Being on first page of the search engine results page for keyword phrases used to search for similar services or products to yours is a necessity if you wish to be found.

Search Engine Optimization, or S.E.O., is an important and in fact vital part of any business’s online presence. Put simply, S.E.O. is the “tweaking” of a website so that it’ll be displayed right at the top of a Search Engine’s results pages (y’know, on that first page of results you get on Google, Yahoo! or Bing etc. when you key in a search phrase or words and hit “Search”).

This optimisation is an important aspect of any kind of Search Engine marketing that you do; the ultimate aim being to achieving the highest ranking possible for your targeted keywords and phrases. Basically, it works like this: When an Internet user runs a search using a Search Engine they’ll more than likely only look over the first page of results laid out before them. Typically, they’ll then either follow a link they found on that first page or they’ll have another go and try another search. They’d only very, very, rarely make it as far as the barren wastelands of Page 3.

What this means is, if your website is not among the first listed in the search results, its chances of being found by potential customers are actually quite slim. Basically, there is little point in making a website submission to Search Engines if your site will never appear in the first few pages of results..... SEO Question

What are Meta Tags?

SEO answer

Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, after the title tag.

In the context of search engine optimization, when people refer to meta tags, they are usually referring to the meta description tag and the meta keywords tag.

The meta description tag and the meta keywords tag are not seen by users. Instead, these tags main purpose is providing meta document data to user agents, such as search engines.

In addition to the well-known meta description and meta keywords tags, there are other useful meta tags, including the meta http-equiv tag, meta refresh tag, the meta robots tag, the meta copyright tag, and the meta author tag, etc.

These tags are used to give web browsers and search engine spiders directions or data on various information.

SEO Question

So What Exactly Is A PageRank?

SEO Answer

Google PageRank is defined by a number from 0-10 (10 being the highest). It is, essentially, a vote of confidence from the community.

The higher the PageRank, the more "trusted" your site is by Google. That said, the links from these sites are also highly trusted.

SEO Question

What Does Google PageRank Mean To Me?

SEO Answer PageRank or PR, in short, means everything. If you are aspiring to build a great site that generates tons of revenue and loads of daily visitors, PageRank is very important.
There is a huge misconception floating around that Google PageRank also determines your search engine results placement (or SERP). This is not, and has never been true. On Google alone, it is a small factor. When I say a small factor, I mean it is only one of a couple dozen factors. None of the other search engines use PageRank to determine their results.

That said, Google PageRank is a very important statistic for a monetised blog or website. It is one of the deciding factors when determining everything from how much you charge advertisers, to the overall value of your site if you should go to sell it. Some sites even charge other sites for a link if their page has a high enough PageRank.

SEO Question

How Do I Get A High Google PageRank?

SEO Answer The single most effective way to build a PageRank all has to do with a very basic blog principle. Write quality content! It's that simple.... sort of.
Google PageRank is a system that relies heavily on links. Incoming and outgoing links are the biggest factor in your PageRank. Every link that comes into your site (linkback, trackback, backlink) is given a value. The overall value of your incoming links weighs heavily on your Google PageRank.

Every link is assigned a value based on how high the site that linked to you is rated. For example... if you had 1,000 incoming links from websites that don't have a PageRank, it might not weigh as heavily as having 100 incoming links from a site with a PR 5. As I mentioned above, the higher the PageRank, the more trusted the site is. Therefore, when it comes to incoming links, the higher the PageRank of the links, the better your chances of increasing your PageRank. The higher your PageRank, the more leverage you have as a website owner.

There are also factors that you can't control when it comes to PR. The older your site is, the more trusted it becomes and therefore, it is looked upon in a favourable way by Google. Google wants lots of pages, lots of incoming links to said pages, and lots of internal links to your pages. That means that you should try to link to as many pages inside your site as possible. This shouldn't be hard, because it only helps your cause.

Some people even buy incoming links from sites with a high Google PageRank. This is not advisable as, one, it costs money and it isn't really cost effective for a new website. Two, the websites that do this are usually punished when Google finds out of which they invariably do find out.
